a speculative title sequence (for a fictitious movie ) / video art piece for ‘the hidden life of trees’ by peter wohlleben., 3:10 video, 2020.
this was a way to acknowledge the beauty of how trees are communicating with one another in a way that most of us don’t think about. i wanted to play with splicing video and camera angles to personify the trees. I thought to make it humorously dramatic with the Shakespeare voice over + “the sound of silence” by Simon & Garfunkel played backwards & an absurdist caption translation. I also wanted to play with slow masking edits for the same reason of acknowledging that the trees are communicating on a slower timeframe than us as humans but nonetheless are; & also for the reason that we are slow to understand that trees actually are in communicative communities.
