What if we are never meant to be completed as people?

the iterative art project:

Inspired by the biblical metaphor of the Tower of Babel, this multimedia installation offers symbolic commentary on the complexities of language, the cacophony of self-proclaimed truths, and the seduction of unknowing. The work embraces ambiguity — across mediums and forms — and invites viewers into a (de)constructed space of unrestrained delight.

blooming selves | [another tower of babel?? series] [PROOF OF CONCEPT]
3:34 video art piece documenting augmented reality proof of concept. Testing how selves can change in the environment through bringing pieces from newartcity walk through into another space. June 2025.

The media & installations have grown through an iterative process of physical and digital play reminiscent of Surrealist automatism. Material forms take on roles as gentle agitators, or curious companions, and become reinvented through animated loops and sonic gestures. Other elements evolve through generative processes with artificial intelligence systems, dear friends, and theoretical publications.

Through each new evolution, I ask, can we find exuberance within moments of discomfort or confusion? Can we find solace in uncertainty?

wat is luv, bb don’t hurt me, 10 minute sound composition & animation, March 2024.

Animated collage of abstracted stop motion short gifs and videos compiled. Composed from field recordings and a virtual piano website that enables me to transform letters on my keyboard into notes on a different keyboard, this sound incorporates elements of humor. I chose to deconstruct the phrase “wat is luv, bb don’t hurt me” as a playful approach to engage the audience as well as myself & my existential questions on love. By indirectly encouraging them, but mostly as a little hidden message or Easter egg, to hypothetically sing along in response with the phrase “no more!” inspired by the song “What Is Love” by Trinidadian-German Eurodance singer Haddaway from his debut album, “The Album” (1993), I aim to evoke a sense of embodied reflection. This sound also prompts contemplation on the concept of “(k)no(wing) more” and the structural limitations we impose on knowledge acquisition through media and other means. What does it mean to sit, listen & observe for 10 minutes to a non-narrative film? Life and Love do not have a script to follow & so I wonder how can we find comfort within that temporal space.

“Another Tower of Babel?”, my MFA thesis project, is an exploration deep-rooted in communication, language, and contemporary art’s intersections. This project marks a deliberate and iterative journey, endeavoring to challenge communication norms while unraveling the intricate nuances of human expression. It beckons the audience into an enigmatic realm, embracing ambiguity and duality to question prevailing monolithic narratives and transcend rigid boundaries. Through diverse components—ranging from digital animations to tufted sculptures—it creates meditative moments, each element contributing to a larger composition that defies the cycle of planned obsolescence.. Inspired by the biblical metaphor of the Tower of Babel, this artwork is a symbolic commentary on the complexities of communication and the human pursuit of understanding amidst the cacophony of diverse perspectives. Much like the biblical tale, it symbolizes the challenges and aspirations inherent in the endeavor for unity through language, inviting viewers to explore varied interpretations where meanings oscillate between the concrete and the abstract. By incorporating a temporally procedural framework, this project navigates contradictions and ambiguities, aiming to find harmony amidst miscommunication and transcend the limitations imposed by language through reiterative abstraction of mixed media. In adopting this metaphor, I seek to prompt introspection into the intricate layers of human expression, fostering a deeper appreciation for the richness and diversity inherent in our shared communication.
